Poetry Resources

Many, many web sites exist which are devoted to poetry. Some are glossy pages developed with lots of money and skills, others are the juvenilia of a population being schooled in this new and burgeoning form of literacy. Then there are sites which take the 'web' concept literally, luring writers in the hope of 'discovering the next big thing'.

The list that follows isn't comprehensive, it only means to be a 'spread', showing what sorts of things to expect. However we have tried to include links to other lists of further links to resources for poets, enough to keep you busy for a long time.

Poet's Union of Australia

Sign Up or simply look around. The Poet's Union web site

Australia's Cultural Network and ArtsInfo

Both initiatives of the Commonwealth Department of Communications and the Arts

Australian Literature on the Internet

A list of resources maintained by the Australian National Library

Jacket

John Tranter's 'zine was one of the first of its type!

Go Man Go Productions

A 'zine coming out of Sydney that is positioning itself on the cutting edge of multimedia.

Wired | HotWired and Salon

Not strictly poetical but both represent an establishment of sorts in the short historical timeframe of the internet.

Electronic Poetry Center Home Page

The State University of New York has a strong publishing record. This web site is just one more string to their bow.

Manuscript Depot

A web for writers on the web, present your work to the world, wait for the phone to ring... ring.. ring... that could be your new agent. NewPoems.Com is another in this genre.

Poetry Cafe

This is the big money, arts' entrepreneurs, poetry site. Aesthetically it's MTV, Hard Rock Cafe but then poetry is music and rock is music and Bob Dylan did both. It does have a lot of audio and moving pictures. It's all very slick. Here's their index of literary resources.

Poets' Corner

aaaah... Want somewhere quiet to rest the jangled nerves after visiting the café? There's a quiet corner here. So many pieces of work here that we hesitate to guess. The desire to collect isn't new but the ability to publish in such great volume is. The paperback anthology can't keep up with this sort of resource.

World Wide Art Resource

Literature is a subsection of this enormous on-line reference site. Look down the list to 'P' for Poet and Poetry. They claim to have in excess of two hundred links under each of those headings.

A Search Engine for Readers and Writers

Tired of trying to find what you want among the 1,192,843 web pages that match your search criteria? This search engine is for bookish types

Poetry For Organizational Change

A new trend in North American business practice is to create the whole work environment. A place to work, to play, to grow, yadda, yadda, yadda. Creepy stuff, no? but I read recently in the papers that one firm had hired a poet on a full time basis - keep writing!

WordForge: The ArtsForge Writing Collaborative

Online collaborative writing. WordForge is a subsection of ArtsForge. There is a section devoted to poetry, look at the list of webrings listed at the bottom of the page if you want to meander.

Twentieth-century Poetry in English

A simple delight, this page is kept by Professor Eiichi Hishikawa of the Faculty of Letters, Kobe University
