Children's Picture Book Illustrators' Initiative
Rivertime by Trace Balla, recipient of the CPBII 2011-2012, emerging illustrator category
In 2011, the ASA received funding from the Literature Board of Australia Council for the Arts to develop and run an initiative to assist children’s picture book illustrators in creating new works. Funding supported up to five grants for illustrators with differing levels of experience. The initiative was derived from the understanding that grant guidelines designed for writers of many genres don’t always allow illustrators to best demonstrate their skills.
In 2012 the initiative was run, attracting more than 100 applications. The ASA was successful in securing funding from the Literature Board to run the program again in 2013. Grants of up to $15,000 are available for emerging, developing and established illustrators who have a specific project they’d like to develop. Both illustrators and author/illustrators with some publication history and a work-in-progress are welcome to apply.
Submission guidelines and application cover sheet, along with frequently asked questions are now available for download below. Applicants should read both documents carefully before preparing their application.
